Arriving at age 13 as a ball boy in La Terraza, the 21-year-old Nolasco is now preparing with longer workouts for the upcoming match against Venezuela. Vasquez added that for more than 25 years Central Romana has been sponsoring the teaching pro players covering all the expenses to participate in national championships. “It would have been practically impossible for us without the company’s help to compete at this level.”
For Nolasco this is a great opportunity to go beyond the CdC borders. “My plan is to become the number one player in the country and see where that takes me,” stated Nolasco.
The Davis Cup was created in 1900 and is the premier team tournament in the world. The country, which is currently ranked 50th by the International Tennis Federation, beat 4-1 the 85th ranked Bolivians on Feb. 10-12 at the Parque del Este, the former site of the 2003 PanAmerican Games in Santo Domingo East.
Nolasco joins the number one player in the DR veteran Victor Estrella ranked 177 by the ITF, Johnson Garcia and Jose Hernández.
With the win the DR team advances to the second round of Group II of the Americas against Venezuela on April 6th.
